How to Make you own Live Fish Bowl Table Decorations
By Sarah (a CGE Gifts star customer)
Before even considering the below make sure your fish can be home'd after the event, they are after all living creatures and not just a party decoration. We rebagged all the fish at the end of the day and emptied the water from the bowl, this was then given to people as a gift: bowl, plant, gravel and fish.
You will need to first of all purchase your bowls* then the evening or day before your event you will need to do the below preparation:
* The bowls Sarah used were as per item no. 304-0004
Buy gravel for the base of the tanks, this comes in a variety of colours we had red and white as it matched the theme of the wedding. This will need to be washed a few times as can cloud the water if all the dust isn't rinsed out properly beforehand.
Once your gravel is in fill two thirds full with normal tap water and if you have it a couple of drops of water conditioner (can be bought from any fish shop), make sure you do not fill to full as the water the fish is transported in will also need to be put in the bowl.
Finally add a plant, not only will this make the bowl look more decorative but it also aids the fish by oxygenating the water.
This then needs to be left at least over night to let the water settle and become the same temperature as the air around it.
On the day of your event you will need to buy your goldfish (ask the fish seller for some spare transporter bags as you will probably need to cut the ones they are in to get them in the bowls easily), make sure these are relatively small and only one per tank. Make sure they look healthy before you take them away as people may be put off eating by a poorly fish in the middle of your table!!
To bag up at the end we used a small clean cup to put some of the tank water in the new transporter bags and then caught the fish with a small net, the rest of the water was emptied and the plant, gravel and fish in bag were put back into the bowls for easy transportation.
People loved it, all i heard all day was ' What a different and effective idea'
